Do I have frozen shoulder?
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis (AC), is an inflammatory condition that causes fibrosis of the shoulder joint capsule and is accompanied by gradual progressive stiffness and significant restriction of shoulder range of motion.
In general, patients with AC usually demonstrate significant restriction in both active and passive range of motion, particularly in external rotation and abduction movement.
AC is a clinical diagnosis made by medical history, physical examination, and image modalities. In other words, there is no single specific test that provides definitive diagnosis of this condition.
Therefore, it is critical to consult your local GP and your physiotherapist to evaluate your shoulder as frozen shoulder particularly in early (freezing) stage might be a diagnostic challenge as it may mimic subacromial pathology and rotator cuff tendinopathy.
