Can Physio help with my headache ?
Headache is one of the most prevalent pain conditions present at all stages of life. The International Headache Society (IHS) classifies headache into a range of disorders comprising three broad categories with more than 300 underlying headache forms. Common types of headache include migraine, tension-type headache, exertional headache etc
One type of headache may be a referred phenomenon from a disorder affecting structures in the cervical spine. This is also known as cervicogenic headache. There is now substantial evidence of this type of headache where treatment to the cervical spine has a substantial lasting effect.
If you are headache is aggravated by neck movement or posture, it may be indicative of cervicogenic headache, and identifying provocative movement is critical for planning manual therapy when treating by our Physiotherapist.
Clinically, it can be difficult to distinguish migraine or other type of headache from cervicogenic headache. An incorrect diagnosis is made in up to 50% of the case. Therefore, it is importantly to see our highly experienced physiotherapist to conduct a systematic physical examination to find out how we can help.
Our physiotherapists use varies of manual treatment techniques including joint manipulation/mobilisation, Mulligan Mobilisation with Movement, dry needling, electrotherapy & motor control exercises to help managing your headache.
